Creating Comics #1: Where do you get your ideas from?

I know, I know... the title of this post is such a cliched question, one I have been asked from time to time. Not such an easy one to answer I think, and it throws up some deeper philosophical questions such as why do I get all these ideas for stories in the first place?!

Anyway, I thought it might be fun to do a series of articles on how I create my comics, so here goes... I guess creating comics is a different process for everyone who does it and for me it's an organic, evolving process that tends to change with each story.

As for the ideas... well, I think they're some sort of subconscious reaction to everything that I see in day to day life. Not just big stuff like what's in the news, or what cultural input I partake in like movies, TV, other comics, etc- although they're important too- but, everything. From my first cup of tea in the morning to taking my wife a glass of water at bedtime, and everything in between.

Everything goes in, gets jumbled and churned up and spat back out again as ideas... I suppose all it is is a way to make some sort of sense of the world... and have a laugh in the process.

Here's a picture...
Fred's pal Lance has a eureka moment in his upcoming story, 'Oh, Bloody Hell!', which will be appearing in The Incredibly Stupid Misadventures of Fred Fortune and his chums!! #6. This tale was penciled by John Woolley and scripted and inked by me. It'll be on sale as soon as it's ready...

See ya next time...
